philosophy video

Today in class we watched a video about philosophy that is done by Hank Green and his brother John Green who is a very successful and famous author. We watched part of the video yesterday in class and then we continued on with the video for today’s class. We also talked about some concepts of philosophy and we heard some stories about homelessness. I thought that the stories that we talked about were pretty cool like Mr. Schick invited a homeless man to lunch because it was freezing outside and found out so many unexpected things about him like he was injured in work and that he had a sister somewhere that I can’t remember. And I thought that it was very nice of Mr. Schick offered to buy the man a ticket so he could go to his sister but the man refused to take the ticket because he didn’t want his sister to find out he was living like this.

crash course

Today in class we got back our western civ test and went over all of the answers so everyone knew the correct answer. I got a 95 on my test which I am very very very very proud of. We also watched a crash course video in philosophy. We learned that Philo means science and mythos means storytelling. We also learned about Philosophy came to be understood more as a way of thinking about questions. We learned that metaphysics is the branch of philosophy that studies the nature of reality and that epistemology is the branch of philosophy that studies that nature and the scope of knowledge. Some question philosophers think about is what is the world like? Do you a human have a soul? Is there something about me that will survive when I die? And is the world just matter and energy, or is there something else going on

group project

Today in class we got into our groups a discussed what we were going to do for our group project. My group has decided that we will be making a pot that replicates what a pot would look like back in ancient Greece. We will be going to the John Carroll art room to make our pot so that will be so much fun, we will also have the help of Mr. Gaudreau to make out pot. In ancient Greece, they paint stories on their pots and the story that we are going to paint is a story of Hercules fighting a giant snake-like monster with three heads. The painting will not be as good as the painting that is found on the pot from ancient Greece but we will try our best. This is going to be a fun project and I am excited to finish the class project.
