introduction to Ancient Greece

Today in class we got our new seat, I now sit in the back of the classroom. We continued to take note from the textbook. Then continued to look and take notes on the power point. We learned that it was very hard to travel in ancient Greece because of the rough and rugged terrain that existed all a crossed the landscape of ancient Greece. In class, we look at a map of Greece in comparison to North Carolina. We learned that Greece is not united as one, like the united states are, but is small and independent communities that make up the country of ancient Greece. Also, we reviewed that the Mediterranean means “middle of the earth” and Greek people didn’t know about the existence of the Americas. We learned that Greece has poor/limited natural resources and needs to trade with other countries to stay alive. One of Greece’s main exports was olive oil. Many of the people who lived in ancient Greece were expert shipbuilders and sailors and they were also farmers, metalworkers, weavers, and potters. We found out that it is easier to get from one place to another by sailing and that is was their main way of transportation.
