democracy and Greece's golden age
Today in class the people that needed to take their unit 1 test took their test while the other read pages 134-141 and took notes, also later in class we will be getting back our test so everyone can see their grade. In the reading that we did today, we learned about democracy and Greece’s Golden Age. We learned that in Athens the leader Pericles rule over Athens for almost the whole Golden Age. The great leader only made one mistake in his rule and that was to challenge Sparta into war. This war was a tragic loss for Athens, the result of this left them devastated. In that war, Pericles was killed. We also learned about Socrates, who believed that absolute standards did exist for truth and justice; Plato, who wrote down the conversations of Socrates; and about Aristotle, who questioned the nature of the world and of human belief, thought, and knowledge. We read about the Greeks created drama, which there is two kinds-tragedy and comedy. A tragedy is a serious drama about common themes such as love, hate, war, or betrayal. Comedy is scenes filled with slapstick situations and crude humor.
