Philosophers
Today in class we looked at slide's from the power point to learn about the Great minds of Greece. We talked about Socrates, who look at science and logic to explain things that happened rather than looking to the Gods. We talked about how he was put on trial because he was teaching to the young and corrupting their minds with nonsense. When put on trial Socrates did not deny what he had done and what he had been accused of, this caused him to be put to death. There were many opportunities for Socrates to escape his death penalty but he went on with it and not jump at the opportunities to save his life. We also talked about Plato, who was one of Socrates students and wrote down all of Socrates teachings and his trail in his book called the Apology. We went on to talking about Aristotle who was a student of Plato and he helped foster the idea of Athens as an intellectual destination. He started a school -The Lyceum- which focused on cooperative research, which is building on knowledge gathered from all over the world. He also invented the concept of the internet, finding all the information in the world in one place. We then went on to talk about the group project that is coming up where we have to research on an aspect of Greece’s culture and present it to the class.
